Back in the early '80s, I introduced the study of Taoist baby massage into the UK. It happened inadvertently as most of the best things do, by me soothing a newborn baby’s colic while treating his mum for post-partum blues and she was so aghast at the effect, she told her obstetrician who persuaded me to teach classes under his esteemed wing. And within no time it was in all the papers and birth professionals of various kinds were flying in from all round the world to watch the spectacle of me teaching fifty mothers how to massage their babies without any of them crying and setting all the others off. In retrospect, it was nothing short of a miracle and well worthy of all the attention it received.
And during that time I had the privilege of getting close to many parents, many of whom were in a state of deep anxiety about how they’d be able to support their child and so on. And I always assured them, based on observation and from having three sons of my own, that each baby comes through the pipe complete with the heavenly provision of its own support system, including the potential for all the wherewithal it will require for the duration, including even financial wherewithal. And that by that, somehow, all the money needed to support them would materialize of itself, provided the parents relaxed and trusted it to be so.
And it invariably worked out that way.
Which is all very lovely, I know, but when you stop to consider the basic, yet generally overlooked, fact that you yourself were once a newborn baby who also came through the pipe with your own heaven-sent support system, complete with all the wherewithal you’ll ever need to keep your show on the road. And that by that, somehow, all the money you need to support you, will materialize of itself, provided you relax and trust it to be so.
But rather than go, yes, very nice, and then proceed to demolish the notion with your rational mind, take a moment to travel back through the carbon rings of time to when you’d just popped through the pipe, complete with your very own universal survival pack, reread the instructions with the benefit of hindsight and note how they assure you you’ll always have whatever it is you need, support-wise, provided you relax and trust it to be so. Then repeat 6 times with feeling and sincerity so it penetrates: my deepest choice now is to relax and trust it to be so.
And so it is.
