Imagine wishing that everything was exactly as it was. In other words, imagine being content being who, how and where you were, appreciating the moment as if it was your last. Imagine not feeling

You get what you expect. That’s the way reality works. Expect to be deprived, treated badly, hurt, attacked, hindered and so on and that’s what you’ll get. So definitely don’t expect that, unless you like the drama of being in unnecessary pain. Instead expect a beautiful day in which you surprise yourself by how well you get everything done and by how much fun you have playing like a child in the funfair of daily life.
Expect people to be cooperative, kind, caring, respectful, authentic and generous towards you and that’s what you’ll get, providing of course, you’re willing to be that way towards them in the first place.
And yes of course you’ll be let down here and there. This happens because the outside reflects the inside. When you get let down, it’s happening to show you that somewhere in the depths of your mind, you were expecting that, hence creating it. and it’s showing you that so you can get stronger and clearer about expecting to be delighted and surprised instead.
Develop your expectation to be delighted and surprised today. do this simply by letting go of the hurt child within, the frightened child within and choosing to be the bold, daring, courageous, outrageous, life-loving child within, playing in the funfair of the everyday.
Cast your mind back to a time you were that child. And let it inform you with an excited feeling in your chest, without having any particular object to attach your excitement to.
Throw yourself into the arms of the Tao and let it catch you and life will work out swimmingly now.
Terrific Tuesday wish: the delights you receive today surprise you so much you all but fall off your chair.
I’ve drawn this hexagram before, so you’re probably about to witness the extent of my inconsistency, as I’ll no doubt interpret it totally differently this time to last – I’ve probably even given it a different name – I don’t fully recall. But that’s not important because
No question about it, unless you like running static playing the questions-and-answers game as a mode of thinking things through, your subconscious is omniscient. It already knows the answers to all questions – for it there are no questions and no answers in any ultimate sense – everything just is as it is.
Oftentimes you get something you want and find out you didn’t really want it at all. Things look one way before you have them and another when you have them. You want the moon but as soon as you have it, you realise it has a dark side you don’t like.
That’s why it’s silly being too fixed about what you want on the detailed level. Keep your wants simple in the sense of wanting peace, wanting health, wanting wealth, wanting a loving world in which you feel connected to the source of all good and so on, and let life produce the set of details that will produce that result for you.
It’s a difficult thing to do because you invest mental and emotional energy into particular pictures of what you believe will bring you the satisfaction you want.
That’s why every time you wish for something, tell the Tao, ‘this is my wish – make it, or something even better happen to produce my highest good.’
After that it’s all down to letting go, like whizzing down a waterslide – don’t hold onto the sides, just let yourself surrender to the ride and glide.
When you transcend preferences, wrong and right in terms of how badly or well things work out take on a different significance. mistakes and mishaps become opportunities. When something goes wrong, or not according to plan, take it as a message from the Tao, from life, that a different, more compatible option is available and all you have to do is be open enough to spot it.
Imagine you were so innocent you had no preconceptions, no preferences and no prejudices. Imagine you were so free of judgement you never attempted to draw a conclusion. Imagine you were so childlike, you felt open-hearted to all other people and living things, including even mosquitoes. Imagine you were so awake, you thrilled at life and at the mystery informing it with every breath you took. And imagine that by being like this, everything you need fell into your lap without you making any effort to make it happen.
Then be that person.
This is the Taoist way.
It runs counter to the huff-and-puff mode more favoured in modern society, but as modern society isn’t all it was cracked up to be and is evidently as flawed as can be, why treat its tenets with reverence?
Experiment with the Taoist approach of becoming like a child, playing innocently in the playground of life today and tonight and watch how easily and well things work out for you.
Wish: things work out so well and easily you can hardly recognise your life by the end of the day.
While you’ll always be tempted from time to time to let your survival anxiety run away with you and create internal horror stories about the prospects of your life falling apart and you winding up destitute, ruined, sleeping rough and friendless, it’s good to realize this merely represents you blowing things out of proportion for no reason. In fact if you say so what, in full trust that even if that unlikely scenario were to happen, it wouldn’t be the end of you and that somehow you’d actually turn it to your advantage, if only in having a good story to tell, you’ll find the fear dissipates instantly.
You’re then free (and strongly advised) to use that energy instead to visualize yourself achieving whatever it is you need to achieve to keep your life moving along harmonious abundant lines.
You have a choice in every moment between fearing or visualizing – and remember you get what you focus on, whether that focus is negative in the case of fear-thoughts or positive in the form of visualizations.
So use your energy and time wisely and focus your attention on the vision of what you want rather than what you don’t want.
Reality as you perceive and experience it is merely subjective anyway – what you experience is merely a set of appearances and not ultimate truth, unless you’re spending all your time in the enlightened, transcendent state, instructions for which appear in today’s Members’ Wisdom Drop (for which you'll need to be or become a member, and it's worth it).
Wish for you: you waste not a drop of energy or time on negative pictures today and instead find yourself spontaneously drawn to only see the positive and thereby create it with such force, you find yourself singing, ‘Barefoot is a real brick (with a ‘b’)’ the whole day and night long.
