Watch how everyone’s rushing around engrossed in the game of the everyday, striving for wealth, power, status, stimulation, excitement, thrills, satisfaction, profit, success, knowledge, influence, achievement and so on, as if that’s what will give them the fix they want, while all along what they’re all looking for, what we’re all looking for at every turn, in everything we do, in everyone we meet, is love.
But just like the Tao of which it is a primary aspect, love is actually indefinable. You can mention its effects but you can’t explain what it actually is, no matter how you try and many have.
However you can explain precisely how to access it, increase its presence and amplitude and the strength with which it radiates from you to those around you, as well as the strength of the flow coming back your way from others.
Doing so you activate a charge in the quantum field, which causes a spontaneous quickening of events in your life in real time, in turn, giving rise to an increase of the requisite serendipity, synchronicity and synergy to shift your life a whole quantum jump for the better and bigger in all respects.
Love is generated in the heart centre – it is an expression or product of heart chi. By stimulating the heart chi in the chest, you amplify the force of love flowing through you. Begin by simply spending time concentrating on softening and relaxing your chest and allowing the warmth you feel as a result to radiate all around you willy nilly as a gift to the world. Then while out and about interacting with others, remind yourself to simultaneously pay attention to continuing to soften and relax the chest and allowing the warmth to radiate to envelop whomever you meet or even just think about.
Every now and then, spend some time visualizing that radiance spreading so far and wide, it envelops the whole world, bringing peace to every sentient being.
Within just a short while – a few days, a week, three weeks or whatever – you’ll experience a marked improvement in all your affairs leading swiftly to major progress.
My wish: that you start experiencing surprising signs it’s already working, one after another right through the weekend.
To instigate transformation in your life, start by instigating transformation of your beliefs. You hold the world in the shape that you perceive it to be according to your beliefs about it and your relationship to it. Change the beliefs and, in short, you change your world.
One of the simplest, most powerful ways to do this and one that requires no effort whatsoever, is to take a piece of A4 and a pencil and write a series of affirmations, positive statements, by way of sending a message to that layer of consciousness where all your deeply help beliefs are lodged.
The beautiful thing is, that simply by writing affirmations down, the desired change occurs of itself as if by magic, without you having to do anything else about it.
There are many styles of affirmations. The most simple is making a positive statement along the lines, for example: I am strong. I am capable. I am able to accomplish an amazing amount today without even trying. The more I relax now, the more I achieve. I am able to generate limitless energy. The more I get done today, the more energy I have.
Try writing each of these six times and at the end, sign off with a ‘so be it,’ then forget all about it and check back at the end of the day and you’ll no doubt be amazed at how discreetly yet effectively it did the trick.
My wish: that you use the affirmations and enjoy it so much, you start making up ones of your own and use them every day from now on and experience their full power transforming your life for the better and that just using the ones above today, you experience a shift that proves you are fully in command of your own reality.
There is only one thing you can count on fully and unquestionably: at a certain point in time – and you never know when it will be – it could be in decades, it could be in seconds - you are going to divest yourself of this present body and all the activities, events, experiences, memories, relationships, achievements, possessions, hopes, fears and dramas associated with it. Myths of physical immortality notwithstanding, no one has ever avoided this. It’s evidently a well tried and tested system and seeing as no one has ever come back the other way to complain about it, we must assume it’s perfectly safe and as it’s meant to be. If we wish, we can even assume it’s a wonderful experience as the spirit is set free of the constrictions of the physical realm.
However, we spend huge amounts of energy and time attempting to escape it, attempting to pretend it isn’t going to happen, attempting to distract ourselves by becoming so engrossed in the everyday world, we think that’s more real and powerful than death. But we all know it isn’t - nothing is more powerful. Instead of fighting it, avoiding it or distracting yourself from it, train yourself to start embracing it. Start making friends with it. See it as a benign entity rather than an enemy. That way, rather than spending your life in denial, masking the existential dread of it, you walk in peace along the path, knowing that at the end of it, your friend awaits to free your spirit for the next phase of its journey whatever that might be and in whatever form – no one knows for sure. This isn’t to say you’ll ever stop being afraid of it, just that along with the fear, there’ll be a growing sense of peace and surrender.
Once you’ve surrendered to the reality of death, you automatically surrender to the reality of life. Knowing this is all going to stop one day anyway, you understand you have nothing to lose by living your life’s adventure to the full. It sets you free to grow as large as can possibly be. You can still distract yourself with the games of the world but are no longer fooled into believing them to be the reason for living and so stop taking so seriously whether you’re winning or losing.
The Taoists say that when you die, nothing happens.
This is ambiguous. On the one hand, it means everything stops, at least as far as you’re concerned, this you you’ve become habituated to believing in. on the other hand, it means, that for your immortal spirit, that aspect of you that’s been bearing witness to your soul’s journey, lifetime, after lifetime, after lifetime, when you drop the body, you find yourself where you actually always were all the while: in the eternal now.
Just a few moments contemplation on your own mortality, once a day, to honour your friend is enough to help you retain perspective while you dance in the world of the ten thousand things and to remind you of the extreme preciousness of each and every moment you have and of all moments shared with those you love.
My wish: that you get it and value each moment of this miracle so fully, you waste not a single nanosecond today feeling even the slightest bit blue.
To achieve the inner stability necessary to maintain perpetual inner peace while undergoing the cyclic transition from good times to bad and vice versa, through progressive identification with the unchanging generative source of life informing all cycles, meditate every day. It doesn’t have to be for very long. Just a few minutes will do the job, provided you do it every day, pretty much without fail, from now on till you die. And it’s easy, as you don’t actually have to do anything.
Meditation is about doing absolutely nothing. Meditation is about stopping all the doing you’re doing. You stop agitating your body. You stop agitating your mind. You simply let go of the entire story of being you for a few moments and simply sit here being – with no you in the picture.
Humble, practical suggestion: Total Taoist Recalibration Meditation Training - if you want to be talked fully through the process as if I was in the room with you – and PURE (the book) is fairly unbeatable for comprehensively taking it deeper, at least as far as Taoist style meditation is concerned. The Taoist style is one of the oldest, most advanced, evolved and potent there is but there are countless others, each of which offers a different flavour and entry point, but ultimately all lead to the same place: stillness. Reaching stillness at the core of you, you meet the Tao, the only constant there is. Meet the Tao like this every day from now on, just for a few minutes and gradually you feel more and more nurtured by that and so less and less adversely affected by the coming and the going.
My loving wish, dear Member: simply that you have such a profoundly merry Monday in all ways, you just can’t stop saying merry Monday the whole day and night long.
When good times come, do not cling to them, do not fool yourself into believing they will remain forever and be aware that the more you do cling and fool yourself, the more it’s going to hurt when they pass. Similarly, when bad times come, do not be deluded into thinking they’ll remain forever. They too have to pass.
Over time develop the wisdom that derives from transcending preferences for the good or the bad. Instead develop a preference to identify with the unchanging Tao informing the passing of one phase into another, as that is the only constant in existence. The more you are identified with the underlying source of all existence, including both the good and the bad, the less either extreme of the swing affects you at a radical level, thus enabling to maintain a fairly constant state of perpetual inner peace.
My wish: that you experience absolute equilibrium in the midst of activity to the extent nothing today can disturb you.
