Long time now, you’ve been feeling off the path in some vital respect – feeling as if you’ve been deprived of your birthright, as if the Tao had relinquished you on some level, as if perhaps you’d been playing the game all wrong and had led yourself up a blind alley.

Perhaps the main crux of the self-development process is expanding your capacity for communication: communication between the warring factions within your own mind, between you and your Tao, and between you and others. Your whole experience of being you depends on it. The more expanded your capacity for communicating, the more able you are to articulate what you want and convey it with sufficient potency to have a beneficial effect, whether communicating between the different voices within, with the Tao or with other people.
However the style of communication is secondary to the place within, from which you’re transmitting and receiving. Correctly anchored, you enter a naturally elevated, transcendent flow of communication, wherein the style and content are almost irrelevant because the intention and energy enveloping it carries the true message (love) for you.
Love: the need to receive it and give it, in its universal form, is at the heart of the thrust of all communication, however heavily disguised.
Anchoring your transmitting and receiving functions merely requires a subtle psychospatial adjustment.
Spend a bit of time in a relaxed state with your eyelids lowered, practicing awareness of the centre of your chest, imagining an opening in the middle of your breastbone, through which flows an outpouring of universal love.
Then spend a bit more time practicing awareness of your upper chest, where your thymus gland is situated, also with an opening, imagining it as the lowest point of a large inverted triangular sea-shell-like shaped receiving dish, whose upper edge is way above your head, which allows an in-rush of universal love.
Now imagine yourself breathing in through the upper opening and out through the lower. Breathing the love in and breathing it back out.
Give yourself a day or so to become used to the feeling, then try it when in the midst of an internal conflict to calm the mind, or when wishing to address the Tao directly, or when talking with others.
Let the awareness of it be happening while engaged with the outside world and you’ll notice the quality of communication between you and others, between you and the Tao and between you and yourself improve notably.
Be patient with yourself. This is a challenging exercise and the benefits are manifold.
To be sure you will transform your entire reality for the better in hardly any time at all, once it becomes natural and automatic.
Try it today and through the weekend ahead and if you don’t trigger a stream of miracles in your life, I’ll eat my shoes.
May you be inundated with miracles now.
The crazed cult of momentary celebrity attests to the sense that people, in ever increasing numbers, are aspiring to being and/or being seen to be extraordinary. The urge to be and/or be seen to be extraordinary, is an attempt to become immortal – obviously not one founded on good sense, as a walk through any graveyard full of the bones of extraordinary people will confirm, but a powerfully compelling one nonetheless.
When you’re feeling at odds with yourself or out of sorts in any way, do you notice how you automatically assume you’re the only one in the world feeling this way, that you’re some sort of freak, a unique brand of loser, the only person in the universe stupid or odd enough to have manifested such a state?
Everyone feels the whole range of internal states to varying degrees at different times and it has nothing to do with how successful, rich, famous, beautiful, popular or sorted they seem to be. Everyone, one way or another, to varying degrees of intensity at different times, experiences the same internal rollercoaster ride, because that’s the nature of human life. So you could safely assume with a global population of around 7 billion, the last time I counted, that at any one time, there are between ten million and a hundred million people feeling exactly the same way as you, however freakish your internal state appears to be to you. I base this calculation on the ancient Taoist intuitive statistics method but even if I’m way out and there are only ten to a hundred other people feeling exactly as you do at any one time, it’s enough to make you realise you are never alone in how you’re feeling and that you are not a freak.
I say this because feeling like a freak, when in the grips of various phases of the existential process, is universal and contributes vast amounts of unnecessary added stress to the experience. So when experiencing what you consider freakishly obscure negative internal conditions, you are now perfectly safe in acknowledging it as utterly ordinary.
Indeed, knowing yourself as ordinary, training yourself to be ordinary and aspiring to ordinariness is a major key to being enlightened – ordinariness, in other words is the key to extraordinariness, something I’ve gone into in depth in today’s Members Wisdom Drop (have a look).
For now, however, no matter how extreme or intense your internal state, assure yourself, ‘I am not alone in this – it is perfectly ordinary and so am I.’ Then relax into the relieving feeling of inner peace this thought invariably inspires.
Self-acceptance: accepting your internal state with grace rather than fighting with it and asking why, why, why; and breathing mindfully without holding your breath, together constitute the fundaments of any healing.
Accept yourself fully as you find yourself this very moment and breathe mindfully, deeply, slowly, fully, evenly and smoothly and you will engender a state of absolute wholeness here and now.
From this state of wholeness, a stream of miracles – benign unexpected quantum shifts of external conditions – will be unleashed in your life.
May you benefit from a stream of miracles in your life now.

People-gazing as I do, using a diagnostic eye trained with over 30 years of Chinese medicine and physiognomy, I often find myself unable to ignore the stress and conflict behind the masks people wear in public. Sometimes it’s quite painful to see and I generally counter it by wishing miracles of healing, looking for the redeeming positive qualities of strength and courage, transmitting healing chi from a distance and generally wishing them well. This is not on account of latent saintliness, but simply because that response makes it feels easier inside me than walking around carrying their pain – it releases me of it.
I have no doubt that this response to the universal pain being experienced by pretty much everyone at varying degrees at different times for one reason or another, is an effective antidote to some extent. Thoughts have impact. If you sensitise yourself, you’ll occasionally notice while walking along a busy street, a wave of goodness impact upon your person as if from nowhere, a wash of wellbeing lighting up your heart and soul for no apparent reason and I believe these events are the result of someone passing by blessing you, as in sending you healing thoughts, for whatever reason.
I also have no doubt that if everyone reading this today were to adopt it as a practice, responding to others by transmitting healing wishes their way, it would have a notable effect in the external world within but a short time.
So I’m inviting you to join me in this enterprise from an experimental point of view just to see what happens as a result if anything.
At the very least, you’ll notice yourself feeling lighter and better for it. It will open a new level of communication between you and the ineffable, invisible intelligence informing, animating and connecting us all on the subliminal level.
Start off by trying it on just one person a day and if you like the sensation gradually up the level to three people a day and so on until you occasionally spontaneously find yourself sending healing wishes to all the world.
Thoughts have impact. There’s nothing wishy-washy or pie in the sky about it.
Meanwhile, I wish you a whole stream of healing miracles in your own life now – delightful instances of serendipity occurring at every turn.
It gets clearer and clearer, the further along the path you go, that the journey itself is the destination, or that there is no real destination, for whatever goals you manage to manifest, as if your life had depended on it, you fairly soon, if not instantly, start chasing a new set of goals.
There is, however, incontrovertible benefit in having goals.
Though the first goal should probably be that you learn to fully enjoy the travelling towards your goals and allow that enjoyment to be your main source of succour, rather than pinning your hopes on the achievement of your other goals to provide that for you.
Perhaps the second could be that you exist in a state of constantly-on loving: loving yourself, loving others, loving what’s going on, loving what isn’t going on and generally loving being here, simply for being here, no matter what you do or don’t achieve, because there’s no other lubricant for the mechanics of reality as powerful as love.
And possibly the third one could be that you always express yourself, as a vessel of love, creatively, authentically and fully, no matter what.
Beyond that, the real benefit of having goals is to lend your life a sense of direction and meaning, without which it is generally much harder to maintain a positive spirit, in respect of getting out of bed in the morning, in the face of so much apparent opposition arising from meaningless and potential chaos occurring in the world around you.
It also serves to provide you with some divinely sublime moments of satisfaction and wonder, watching something that came to you as a mere idea suddenly, in the fullness of time, mysteriously becoming an actuality. It can bring tears of joy to your eyes, in fact, to bear witness to that mysterious invisible movement of life bringing to fruition what you’ve wanted for a while with all your heart.
But it’s the process of manifesting that’s the miracle and potentially epiphanic rather than the manifestation itself, for it’s there you can spot the Tao doing its dance.
For one of the slickest tools in the trade for honing your manifesting skills, check out today’s Members Wisdom Drop but for now, in honour of the dance of the Tao, take a moment or more to examine your current set of goals. Spend a while purifying them of aspects that might not serve you well and refining them so they are fully honed on what is most likely to facilitate your perfect flourishing.
When you’ve done, write your goals down.
When you’ve written them down, also write down at least six times by way of autosuggestion, ‘I am now choosing to manifest all these goals or even better ones I haven’t yet thought of, easily, effortlessly, enjoyably, swiftly and miraculously.’
This will help you feel focused and in command.
Now let go and surrender to enjoying being here now at the start of the next phase of your journey and give thanks for the forward momentum in your life.
Miracles will start happening almost instantly.
May your Monday be replete with so many miracles you don’t know where to put them all.
